The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency or TRPA is responsible for protecting Lake Tahoe as a national treasure by regulating development to maintain the environmental and visual integrity of the lake and surrounding basin. While these measures are important to preserve the Lake, the permits and respective applications can be very cumbersome when trying to build or even renovate in the Tahoe Basin .
